Members of the Reining Australia Youth Team have had loads of fun, made lots of friends, and developed into the sport's future leaders.

They have the opportunity to benefit from youth awards and incentives, guidance from top Reining Australia Professionals, all while making life-long friendships and having a whole lot of fun along the way! 

Reining Australia offers a number of different programs designed to showcase our most valuable asset - young riders - and reward them for all of their hard work!

The Youth Reining Scholarship by the way of Reining Australia (a non-for-profit organisation), is offering opportunities to further develop RA Youth members in Australia and recognise those actively participating and contributing to reining, both on a local and national level. 

Additionally, the program will assist our senior RA Youth members apply for the Senior Youth Reining Scholarship to assist with their career goals.

 

In addition to RA youth members interacting with each other and participating in the program, we also want to encourage development of life skills that will help them grow and mature.  Valuing the importance of community service, being an active member in a group, learning to work with others, public speaking, written communication skills and creativity, all being important skills that can be further developed by participating in this program.

Senior Youth Reining Scholarship

Academic Scholarships will be awarded with a total commitment of $6,500 each year.

$2500 Scholarship (1) $1750 Scholarship (1) $750 Scholarship (1)

This Scholarship program is to pursue education via an undergraduate degree, trade or technical school or undertake study at Tafe. To enable youth members to apply for the RA Youth Senior Scholarship (14 to 18 years of age) they are to complete the application form, the point/ checklist table (pertaining to the year the application is submitted), write a formal essay to the Essay Question and Cover Letter as well as being an RA Member or Youth Member. Determination for a scholarship is based on academic achievement, RA or RA Youth involvement, other references, and the formal essay.

The Essay is a formal response to the Topic.

“Reining in Australia is often described as the reining community or reining family. What have you gained by being involved and how do you make a positive impact on reining within Australia? “ 

All Essays must include a cover sheet with the Applicants name. The applicant's name should not be in the Essay.  All information must be true and correct.

 The Cover sheet should include the following:

  • Applicants name and RA Number

  • Local Affiliate

  • Contact information.

  • A Short Paragraph on the applicants future planned studies pertinent to the scholarship request. 

 

All applications must be completed and returned to Reining Australia by August 1st of the Point Year. Successful applicants will be advised at the Reining Australia Nationals/ Gold Buckle Futurity Show.

SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

Scholarship funding will be issued directly to the parent or guardian on a semester-by-semester basis. Under no circumstances will the funding be sent to the recipient. Recipient must provide the RA secretary with the following information for the release of funds:

1. Funds may be used for tuition, books, academic fees, and boarding accommodation fees.

2. If the recipient chooses to postpone their education, they must contact the Reining Australia Committee. If the RA Committee is not contacted within one year of receiving the scholarship, the scholarship will be forfeited.

RA Youth Affiliate Recognition Program

RA Youth members (10 to 18 years of age) are eligible for affiliate scholarships by way of a point system (refer to the checklist), when they compete at or attended any Reining affiliate championships across Australia.

Reining Australia encourages RA Youth members to earn points towards recognition awards for activities. Points will be recorded by the youth throughout the year and submitted to their local affiliate. These points will also be used in the Senior scholarship application program.  The Point/checklist is to be submitted to the Reining Australia Committee before the end of the point year.

Core Levels of Point accumulation regarding the Checklist for both Senior and Affiliate Scholarship

Every member can strive to meet the 5 core levels below.  Using these core level descriptors can be very useful when describing your involvement with your affiliate. When completing a level, a certificate will be awarded at the end of the point year.

Platinum Level – 1500 points

Gold Level – 1000 points

Silver – 500 points

Bronze – 250 points

Pewter - 100 points

There will also be recognition for the top 3 highest point earners within Reining in Australia which will have significant prizes announced the 1st of August every point year. 

For Reining Australia Youth Members that don’t have a local affiliate the scholarship and Affiliate Recognition Program is still available for you.
